A well-made ring will last decades. Most damage we see is avoidable.
Take it off for…
Weightlifting, gardening, dishwashing with harsh detergents, applying hand cream, swimming in chlorinated pools. Soap builds up a film that makes diamonds look dull — that is 90% of "my diamond looks dead" complaints.
Clean it at home
Warm water + a drop of mild dish soap + a soft toothbrush, once a week. Rinse, pat dry. No ultrasonic unless we have told you your stone can handle it (opal, pearl, emerald cannot).
Check the prongs
Once a year, look at the center stone under a strong light. If a prong looks bent or the stone tilts, send it back — retipping is cheap, losing a stone is not.
Insurance
Tell your home insurance company. A $4,000 ring costs almost nothing to schedule, and it is the difference between grief and a replacement if it leaves your finger at a hotel.
